THE HAMMOCKS
The acquisition of an adjacent property led to the redesign of this one-acre residence in South Miami. Upon entering the property from the auto court, an allee of shade trees frame the view to a sculpture garden beyond where an informal gathering space overlooks the canal.
Terraced lawn steps extend into the landscape from the outdoor living room to the children’s garden where a custom play structure is nestled within a shaded canopy. The use of monolithic oolite boulders accentuate the lines of the house while mitigating the grade change.
Stormwater is collected in planted drainage swales along the north perimeter where a secluded garden with reflecting pool maximizes the front yard as an extension from the house. Granular pathways meander throughout the property as a strategy to minimize lawn maintenance and retain stormwater on site.
