Historical research influenced plant selection, landscape maintenance and the development of outdoor gathering spaces for this vacation home. The design incorporates iconic Coconut Palm trees by forming a filtered canopy of dappled shade along the front yard. Throughout the neighborhood, wildflowers thrive on the coastal dune and in residual spaces. The proposal sought to integrate these native pioneer species in large planted beds along the street edge in an effort to reduce maintenance costs and intensive lawn care practices. The landscape design sought to maximize outdoor spaces for entertaining and relaxing. The existing entry courtyard will be extended toward the street edge and create a lager gathering space to accommodate social gatherings and outdoor furniture. A kitchen garden serves as a transitional space between the front and back yard where reclaimed driftwood trunks cast sculptural shade patterns.
