Located within the Golden Isles Canals, this one-story modern home is built around a lanai overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway four-feet above the proposed dock elevation. The change in elevation provided an opportunity to craft a multi-tiered landscape experience through the use of retaining walls and step transitions. Our design approach created three backyard spaces; a natural stone pool deck with formal lawn, a fire-pit terrace and an IPE wood dock to accommodates outdoor furniture for social events. The planting palette consist primarily of native grasses, liner shrub bands and tall palms that work to scale and accentuate the clean architectural lines of the home. The arrival sequence features banded permeable pavers in varying sizes to inform circulation pathways while achieving a sixty-percent permeability rate for all opens spaces, which allows stormwater runoff to be contained on-site.
